Magneto: End of Days — Brian Michael Bendis and Andrea Sorrentino Reunite for an Epic Marvel Story

Marvel Comics is putting the Master of Magnetism back in the spotlight with an eight-issue prestige series exploring Magneto’s past, present, and future.

Some characters are too complicated to fit into a simple hero-or-villain label. Magneto has spent more than six decades proving exactly that. Now, Marvel Comics is bringing back writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Andrea Sorrentino for Magneto: End of Days, a new eight-issue series announced at New York Comic Con 2026. The first issue is scheduled to hit comic shops on February 3, 2027.

And honestly? Magneto is one of those characters who deserves a story this ambitious.

A New Chapter in Magneto’s Legacy

Erik Lehnsherr has been one of the most compelling figures in the X-Men universe for decades. A survivor, revolutionary, antagonist, leader, and occasional ally, Magneto has constantly challenged the boundaries between justice, vengeance, and survival.

Magneto: End of Days promises to explore that complexity through a narrative that moves across different periods of his life. Rather than following a straightforward timeline, each issue will focus on a distinct moment, revisiting pivotal events from his past while exploring his present and a near future shaped by the consequences of his decisions.

That approach gives the creative team an opportunity to examine what makes Magneto such a fascinating character: his convictions, his contradictions, and the experiences that have shaped his worldview.

The series will also feature appearances from other familiar faces across the Marvel Universe, although the full guest cast has yet to be revealed.

The Return of Bendis and Sorrentino

The creative reunion is another reason to keep this series on your radar.

Brian Michael Bendis has written Magneto across major Marvel stories, including House of M, Avengers vs. X-Men, and Uncanny X-Men. His return to the character offers an opportunity to revisit familiar territory while approaching Magneto through a more focused, character-driven story.

Andrea Sorrentino, meanwhile, will handle the artwork and main cover. Readers may remember his previous collaboration with Bendis on Old Man Logan, where his cinematic compositions and striking visual storytelling helped create a distinctive atmosphere.

Dave Stewart joins the team as colorist, completing the creative lineup.

According to Sorrentino, working with such an iconic character presents both a challenge and an opportunity to experiment with page layouts and find new ways to communicate Magneto’s personality and powers. That visual freedom could be particularly interesting for a story spanning multiple eras of the character’s life.

Why Magneto Still Matters

What makes Magneto compelling isn’t simply his ability to control metal. It’s the question at the heart of his character: how far can someone go in the name of protecting their people before becoming the very thing they oppose?

His history has always been intertwined with the X-Men’s central themes of persecution, identity, prejudice, resistance, and the struggle for coexistence. Depending on the story, Magneto can be a terrifying enemy, a necessary ally, or a leader whose methods are impossible to defend even when his fears are understandable.

A series examining his past, present, and possible future has plenty of room to explore those tensions without reducing him to a conventional supervillain.

The timing is also notable. With Magneto set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026, the new comic offers longtime readers and newcomers another opportunity to explore the character’s legacy ahead of his next big-screen appearance.

Eight issues. Multiple eras. A legacy built on survival, power, and impossible choices.

Whether you’ve followed Magneto since his earliest battles with the X-Men or discovered him through more recent comics and adaptations, this is a series worth watching.
