During the September 3 State of Play, Sony and LEGO dropped a massive surprise for retro gamers: an official 1,911-piece PlayStation 1 set.

This isn’t just a generic gray box. Set 72306 is a nearly perfect 1:1 scale replica of the 1994 hardware that permanently changed the gaming landscape. And honestly? The attention to detail is ridiculous.

Let’s talk features. You get the iconic gray console complete with tactile, functional “Power” and “Open” buttons. The disc tray actually opens, and the brick-built classic controller plugs directly into the front port—exactly how it was meant to be.

But here is where the set goes from a “cool shelf piece” to “I need this immediately.” If you pop the top of the console open, LEGO hid two miniature dioramas inside honoring absolute PS1 legends: Gran Turismo and Ape Escape.
