Back Into the Box: Dark Matter Season 2 Trailer Sets Up a Thrilling Return
Back Into the Box: The Dark Matter Season 2 Trailer Takes the Multiverse to a Whole New Level
If you’re anything like me, you probably spent the summer of 2024 double-checking every dark alleyway in Chicago just in case an alternate version of yourself was waiting with a syringe and a bad attitude.
Blake Crouch’s Dark Matter adaptation hit Apple TV+ like a rogue freight train—a tightly wound, deeply human sci-fi thriller that reminded us why we love high-concept multiverse stories when they’re actually done right. And after that bonkers, anxiety-inducing Season 1 finale, the big question on everyone’s mind was simple: Where do you even go from here?
Well, San Diego Comic-Con just gave us our answer. Apple TV+ officially dropped the Season 2 trailer, and it looks like peace was never an option for the Dessen family
The Family That Flees Together…
Season 1 was essentially one man’s desperate, horrifying journey to steal his life back from a version of himself who made a different choice. It was intimate, claustrophobic, and wildly stressful.
Season 2 flips the script.
The new footage opens with Jason (Joel Edgerton), Daniela (Jennifer Connelly), and their son Charlie (Oakes Fegley) attempting to live out a quiet, suburban existence in a world that finally feels safe. Key word: seems.
It doesn’t take long before an unspecified threat shatters their fresh start, forcing the entire family back on the run. Seeing the Dessens face the infinite void together shifts the dynamic from a solo rescue mission into a full-on family survival saga.
The Big Takeaway: Season 1 was about finding home. Season 2 looks like it’s about what happens when “home” isn’t a physical place anymore—it’s just the people you bring with you into the Box.

Obsession, Paranoia, and Unlikely Alliances
What makes this trailer hit so hard isn’t just the sleek, dark visual style we’ve come to expect—it’s the psychological pressure cooker building inside the family:
-
Jason’s Fixation: Jason’s obsession with understanding and controlling the Box is deepening. When you’ve seen infinite variations of reality, how do you ever stop looking over your shoulder?
-
Daniela’s Paranoia: Connelly’s Daniela is visibly pushed to the edge. After everything she endured in Season 1, her trust in reality—and perhaps in Jason himself—is frayed.
-
The Amanda & Ryan Team-Up: Perhaps the most exciting snippet in the trailer is seeing Alice Braga (Amanda) and Jimmi Simpson (Ryan) joining forces. Both characters got raw deals in the first season, so watching them team up to navigate their own way home is going to be pure gold.

Mark Your Calendars: August 28
The 10-episode second season kicks off globally on Friday, August 28, 2026, with new episodes rolling out weekly through October 30.
Since Blake Crouch is still running the show as executive producer and showrunner, we can rest easy knowing that even as the story expands past the original book’s blueprint, the heart and high-stakes logic of the world remain in good hands.
Grab your notebook, brush up on your quantum mechanics, and clear your Friday nights this fall. We’re going back in.
