DC Unleashes Hal Jordan into the Cosmic Horror Grindhouse in ‘Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos’
DC Comics has just announced Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos, a twisted, six-issue cosmic horror epic arriving on January 20, 2027. Written by Dan Watters (Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing, Nightwing) and illustrated by grotesque-master Kyle Hotz (Immortal Hulk, Venom), the series takes the shiny, high-minded sci-fi legacy of the Green Lantern Corps and drags it face-first through a gritty, industrial, flesh-and-metal cosmic war.

When Earth Becomes the Universe’s Worst Nightmare
In standard DC continuity, Earth is the birthplace of legendary heroes and a stubborn beacon of hope. In Doomed Cosmos, the script is completely flipped. Humanity has expanded into the stars, but instead of bringing enlightenment, we’ve brought our worst habits: expansionism, destruction, and a cosmic-scale body count. Mankind has positioned itself as the ultimate enemy of the galaxy.
Enter Hal Jordan, stripped of his classic spandex and dipped straight into heavy-duty, weathered cosmic armor. Rather than standing as Earth’s champion, Hal finds himself caught in the middle of a war where his own homeworld is the villain, leaving him as perhaps the universe’s only desperate, slim hope for survival.
A Match Made in Cosmic Hell
The creative lineup alone makes this an immediate pull-list priority for anyone tired of standard cape comics:
-
Dan Watters has carved out a niche for high-concept, atmospheric storytelling that loves to poke at the dark, philosophical underbellies of classic heroes.
-
Kyle Hotz brings his trademark visceral, textured, and delightfully gnarly horror art style, transforming the usually pristine emerald constructs of the Corps into something raw, heavy, and terrifying.
If you like your cosmic battles bloody, existential, and stripped of easy answers, mark your calendar. Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos #1 hits shelves on January 20, 2027.
