Seth MacFarlane’s Ted universe is expanding in a brand-new direction, and this time, the thunder buddies are going fully 2D.

TED: The Animated Series officially drops on Peacock this December 17, and it’s pulling out all the stops. Bypassing the massive CGI costs that famously weighed down the recent live-action prequel series, MacFarlane and his team have enlisted Rough Draft Studios—the brilliant animation minds behind Futurama—to bring this sequel to life.

What’s the Story? We’re jumping 12 years past the events of Ted 2. John and Ted are navigating the absolute minefield of full-blown adulthood. We’re talking marriage, parenting, and suburban survival. The twist? The lifelong best friends are now next-door neighbors. They’ve got families and real-world jobs, but they are absolutely still enabling each other’s spectacularly bad decisions.

It’s the natural evolution of a buddy comedy. We all have that one friend who refuses to let us grow up entirely. Seeing John and Ted try to function as responsible family men while living practically in each other’s backyards sounds like the perfect recipe for chaotic stoner comedy.

Who is Returning? The biggest win here is getting the original movie crew back together. Mark Wahlberg is officially voicing John, proving he’s nowhere near done with his Boston-accented alter ego. Amanda Seyfried is back as John’s wife, Sam, and Jessica Barth reprises her role as Ted’s wife, Tami-Lynn.
