Genndy Tartakovsky Reveals “Primal” Season 3 Trailer — Zombie Spear Returns
At New York Comic Con 2025, Primal creator Genndy Tartakovsky unveiled the first teaser for Season 3, confirming a shocking development: Spear is back as a zombie.
Despite the radical shift, Tartakovsky insists this is not a reboot but rather a continuation within the same world.
A Bold, Darker Turn
The Primal Season 2 finale left fans reeling: Spear died in battle, and the epilogue hinted at a future built around his family. The new trailer, however, reintroduces him in undead form — a direction Tartakovsky believes fits the tone of the series’ pulp influences.
Tartakovsky says that the world of Primal has room for this kind of shift, referencing a past episode (“Plague of Madness”) that already introduced zombified creatures within the same setting. The new season is expected to push boundaries with surreal visuals, emotional intensity, and a more abstract storytelling approach.
Continuity vs. Reinvention
During the reveal, Tartakovsky was careful to draw a line between reinvention and erasure. “It flows right to the next. It’s in the same world, same everything,” he stated. He also affirmed that returning characters from prior seasons — including Fang and Spear’s children — will remain integral to the story.
While Tartakovsky hasn’t confirmed whether Season 3 will conclude the series, he envisions Primal as a flexible “brand” — one that could shift settings or characters in future seasons.
When & Where
Primal Season 3 is slated to premiere in January 2026 on Adult Swim (and associated platforms).
Fans should brace for a darker, more visceral chapter in a series already known for telling profound stories without dialogue.
