Shudder has dropped the official trailer for Night of the Reaper, a retro-styled horror film that resurrects the slasher genre with a sinister twist. Set in a sleepy town still reeling from a string of unsolved murders, the film follows college student Deena as she returns home for a quiet weekend—only to be pulled into a night of terror when she agrees to babysit.

Meanwhile, the local sheriff stumbles upon a dusty VHS tape in an abandoned farmhouse. What’s on it? A grainy, blood-soaked recording that may hold the key to identifying the town’s most infamous legend: the Grim Reaper, a masked serial killer whose reign of terror was thought to be over.

The trailer teases a tense, bodycam-inspired aesthetic, with flickering lights, eerie whispers, and a creeping sense of dread. As Deena’s night spirals into chaos, the line between past and present blurs, and the Reaper’s scythe swings once more.

Directed by Brandon Christensen (Z, Superhost), Night of the Reaper leans into analog horror, using VHS footage and found-object storytelling to evoke the golden age of ‘80s slashers. With a cast led by breakout star Angel Prater and a haunting synth-heavy score, the film promises a visceral experience for horror fans.

Night of the Reaper premieres exclusively on Shudder this fall. Watch the trailer below and prepare for a night you won’t forget.
