“Faces of Death” Trailer Revives a Cult Classic with Meta Horror Mayhem
The infamous cult classic gets a chilling modern twist in the first red band trailer for IFC Films and Shudder’s upcoming horror reboot, Faces of Death. Directed by Daniel Goldhaber (Cam, How to Blow Up a Pipeline), the film reimagines the controversial 1978 pseudo-documentary as a meta-horror thriller for the digital age.
Set to hit theaters on April 10, this marks IFC’s widest theatrical release to date. The story follows a young content moderator, played by Euphoria’s Barbie Ferreira, who stumbles upon a series of disturbing videos that appear to be re-creations—or perhaps real-time reenactments—of the original Faces of Death’s notorious death scenes. As she digs deeper, the line between fiction and reality begins to blur, forcing her to confront the horrifying possibility that the violence may be unfolding live.
The film leans into the original’s “is it real or not?” mystique, but updates the premise for a world obsessed with viral content and digital voyeurism. Ferreira is joined by a stacked cast including Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things), Josie Totah (Saved by the Bell), Aaron Holliday (Cocaine Bear), Jermaine Fowler (Sorry to Bother You), and pop icon Charli XCX in her feature film debut.
The trailer is a jarring blend of found footage, glitchy livestreams, and eerie recreations that pay homage to the original while carving out a new legacy. With its unsettling tone and timely themes, Faces of Death promises to be a provocative addition to the modern horror canon.
Whether you’re a fan of the original or diving into this twisted world for the first time, prepare to question everything you see. In a digital age where truth is elusive and horror is just a click away, Faces of Death dares you to look—and dares you to believe.
