The twisted minds behind Talk to Me are back to haunt audiences with Bring Her Back, a disturbing supernatural horror film from Australian filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou. Released theatrically in late May by A24, the film is now stirring waves among critics and horror fans alike for its slow-burning dread, eerie performances, and deeply unsettling themes of grief, obsession, and resurrection.

Starring Billy Barratt (Invasion), Sora Wong, and Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), the film centers on two grieving siblings who are sent to live with a foster mother hiding a dark secret—and a chilling desire to bring her own dead daughter back from beyond.

Set within the claustrophobic confines of a remote house steeped in occult energy,

draws comparisons to Hereditary and The Babadook, though it carves its own niche with unexpected emotional heft. Hawkins plays Laura, a seemingly nurturing caregiver whose grief spirals into ritualistic madness. Wong, a blind actress in her debut, is earning praise for her role as Piper, while Jonah Wren Phillips brings eerie intensity as the mute foster child Oliver.

Critics are calling it “a horror movie that lives under your skin,” with The Guardian hailing its atmosphere of “abject despair,” and RogerEbert.com praising its “psychological complexity.” The film holds an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has already surpassed its $15 million budget at the global box office.

Bring Her Back is currently playing in select theaters and is expected to hit streaming platforms later this summer.
