Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later Gets Intense First Trailer From Sony

The rage is back.
Sony Pictures has officially dropped the first trailer for 28 Years Later, director Danny Boyle’s latest installment in the iconic post-apocalyptic horror series that began with 2002’s 28 Days Later. The new film serves as a direct sequel to the original and its intense 2007 follow-up, 28 Weeks Later.
The trailer offers a chilling look into a world once again plunged into chaos, with haunting visuals and a fresh wave of terror ignited by the resurgence of the rage virus. While specific plot details are still under wraps, the footage hints at a darker, more expansive vision for the franchise — one that moves beyond survival and into the realm of rebuilding, reckoning, and revenge.
Fans of the series will be thrilled to see Boyle back in the director’s chair, reuniting with original screenwriter Alex Garland. The creative duo helped define modern zombie cinema with their raw and emotional storytelling, and their return signals a potential return to form.
28 Years Later marks the third film in the British horror saga and is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated genre releases of the year. The cast, still largely under wraps, is rumored to include both new talent and returning characters — though Sony has yet to confirm those details.
28 Years Later will be unleashed in theaters on June 20, 2025, with the second installment in this new trilogy of infection tales already dated for theatrical release on January 16, 2026. It’s titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and it’s directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman).
