Transformers: The Movie Returns in Deluxe Comic Reprint for 40th Anniversary
In a nostalgic celebration of one of the most iconic animated films of the 1980s, Skybound and Image Comics have announced The Transformers: The Movie Deluxe Edition, arriving in comic shops on August 12, 2026. This special release marks the 40th anniversary of the cult classic film that redefined a generation of fans and toy collectors alike.
The deluxe volume brings together two landmark comic adaptations: The Transformers: The Movie #1–3 originally published by Marvel Comics, and The Transformers: The Animated Movie #1–4 from IDW Publishing. Together, they offer a cinematic reading experience that spans decades of storytelling evolution.
“The Transformers: The Movie hit like a lightning bolt,” said Senior Editor Nachie Marsham. “Anyone who’s seen it (including me!) has at least one moment forever burned into their memory. Reprinting both the original and the 20th anniversary adaptations in this new volume is a great way for folks to experience it all over again!”
The collection features writing by Ralph Macchio and Bob Budiansky, with art from Don Perlin, Ian Akin, Brian Garvey, and Don Figueroa. The new edition is topped off with a striking cover by acclaimed artist Sean Murphy (Batman: White Knight), adding a fresh visual punch to the legacy of Cybertron’s greatest war.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer curious about the roots of the franchise, this deluxe edition is a must-have for any Transformers collector.
