Tatsunoko’s Samurai Pizza Cats Inspire New Comic by Mad Cave Studios
Nakama Press and Mad Cave Studios, in partnership with Tatsunoko Production, have announced that the beloved Samurai Pizza Cats (Kyatto-Ninden Teyandee) anime is inspiring a brand-new 200-page middle-grade comic. The news was revealed ahead of the companies’ Anime NYC panel.
Samurai Pizza Cats Volume 1 is written by Fred Kennedy with artwork by Lorenzo Di Santo, lettering by Charles Pritchett, and a vibrant cover by Antonio Antro.
The series aims to bring the quirky, offbeat energy of the cult-classic ’90s anime to a new generation of readers, while also serving up plenty of nostalgia for longtime fans. Expect zany humor, armored heroes, and wild adventures as the Pizza Cats defend Little Tokyo from bizarre threats—including mecha-spiders, mischievous Vikings, and more fishstick-fueled mayhem.
The upcoming graphic novel marks a collaboration between Nakama Press—the middle-grade imprint of Mad Cave Studios—and Tatsunoko Production, the legendary Japanese studio behind the original anime.
Release Date: Samurai Pizza Cats Volume 1 is scheduled to ship on April 7, 2026, and will be available wherever books are sold. Pre-orders are already open.
With a mix of slapstick comedy, vibrant art, and all-ages appeal, the comic looks to deliver a fresh take on a fan-favorite property that continues to hold a special place in pop culture.
