Alan Scott’s Green Lantern Gets New Origin Story

DC Comics has announced that the first Green Lantern, Alan Scott, will be getting a new origin story. The new series, titled “Alan Scott: The Green Lantern,” will be written by Tim Sheridan and illustrated by Cian Tormey. The series will recontextualize the earliest adventures of Alan Scott, just in time for the character’s upcoming series.

In a story titled ‘He’s the Light of My Life’ from DC Pride #1, Alan Scott explains to his son Obsidian that the accident that led to him becoming Green Lantern also led to the death of someone he loved. This new history is necessary, given the recent revelation that Scott was actually a closeted gay man. The series will explore Scott’s life as both a man and a superhero, examining what life was like for Scott to be a gay man during the timeframe he debuted.
