Johnny Rico Returns in Retro FPS Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!

Auroch Digital and Dotemu have officially announced Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!, a retro-style first-person shooter set to launch in early 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

The game brings the iconic sci-fi universe back to life with a deliberately nostalgic FPS style reminiscent of classic early-3D shooters, blending chunky pixels with fast, brutal action. Set 25 years after the events of the original film, the story follows a new soldier, Samantha “Sammy” Dietz, as humanity continues its desperate struggle against the Arachnid species.

Players can expect more than 30 weapons, including the classic Morita rifle, heavy machinery, tactical explosives, and experimental anti-bug tech. Missions span multiple planets, each filled with secrets, large-scale engagements, and relentless bug swarms designed to overwhelm players in true Starship Troopers fashion.

In a surprise highlight for fans, Johnny Rico returns, with Casper Van Dien reprising his role, adding authenticity and continuity to the franchise’s lore.

Visually, the game embraces a 90s-inspired aesthetic: pixelated models, exaggerated gore, and high-energy combat that feels both modern in pacing yet retro in presentation. Dotemu, known for reviving classic genres, positions the title as a “gloriously gory 3D-pixelated combat simulation” that celebrates old-school FPS design.
