Bethesda announces a remaster of DOOM and DOOM II

Bethesda Softworks has thrilled fans by announcing enhanced remasters of the iconic DOOM and DOOM II games.

In a surprise reveal at QuakeCon 2024, Bethesda Softworks announced that the legendary first-person shooters, DOOM and DOOM II, are getting enhanced remasters. These new versions will feature upgraded visuals, support for modern controllers, and a brand-new episode titled “Legacy of Rust,” co-developed by id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames.

The remasters will run on the KEX Engine, known for its use in other classic shooter re-releases like DOOM 64 and Quake. Players can look forward to online, cross-platform deathmatch, and co-op support for up to 16 players, along with a new Deathmatch map pack featuring 25 new maps2.

Bethesda’s announcement has been met with excitement from the gaming community, eager to relive the nostalgia of these groundbreaking games with modern enhancements. The remasters are expected to be available on all major platforms, bringing the classic DOOM experience to a new generation of players3.

Also announced at QuakeCon, the DOOM Anthology is a new physical release that includes DOOM (1993), DOOM II, DOOM 64, DOOM 3, DOOM (2016), and DOOM Eternal Deluxe Edition. Containing an exclusive SteelBook game case and a 5-inch replica of the BFG with LEDs and a stand, this is a hell of a collection. The DOOM Anthology will be available for purchase on October 22, 2024, for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
