The wait is finally over for fans of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. Netflix released the first teaser for Season 2 this morning, offering a brief but tantalizing glimpse into the next chapter of the critically acclaimed dark fantasy series.

The teaser, running just under a minute, reintroduces viewers to Tom Sturridge’s Dream (also known as Morpheus), as he journeys through new realms and confronts threats that loom larger than ever. Haunting visuals, cryptic voiceovers, and the reappearance of beloved characters like Death, Lucifer, and Desire suggest a season packed with intense drama and surreal world-building.

The footage also hints at an expanded universe, including glimpses of realms not previously explored in Season 1. Quick flashes reveal new characters and settings that appear to draw directly from Gaiman’s original graphic novels, particularly Season of Mists and A Game of You.

Variety reported that The Sandman season 2 will be released on Netflix in two parts. Fans will want to know that episodes 1 through 6 will come out on July 3rd, 2025, followed by five episodes on July 24th, 2025. Netflix used this release strategy for Stranger Things season 4, which came out in May 2022 and July 2022. Many wonder if Stranger Things season 5 will be split into two parts as well.

As Variety also reported in January 2025, Netflix decided that The Sandman season 2 would be the last one. While fans are sad not to see more than two seasons of the comic adaptation, it looks like the showrunner Allen Heinberg put a lot of thought, care, and attention into these last episodes. It’s a grand story with many villains and compelling characters, and based on the teaser, the same thing seems to be true of the second season. In an interview with Netflix.com/tudum, Heinberg shared that the same crew from season 1 came back for season 2, which meant they could “build on everything we learned and to try to raise our game on every front.” He continued that the VFX, props, costumes, and sets are based on what’s in The Sandman comics and Dream’s new palace is front and center in season 2.

For now, the teaser has done its job: igniting excitement and intrigue. As one fan tweeted, “The Dreaming is back—and it looks more breathtaking (and terrifying) than ever.”
