Netflix has released the highly anticipated first trailer for Last Samurai Standing, an upcoming Japanese action drama that blends historical samurai cinema with the intensity of a battle royale.

The series, based on Shogo Imamura’s novel Ikusagami, will premiere its first two episodes at the 30th Busan International Film Festival on September 18, 2025, before streaming worldwide on Netflix in November 2025.

Set during the late Meiji era, the story follows 292 warriors forced into a deadly competition. Each fighter carries a wooden tag, and the one who collects enough and reaches Tokyo first will walk away with a staggering 100 billion yen prize. Brutal duels, shifting alliances, and blood-soaked betrayals await in this high-stakes survival game.

The series is led by Junichi Okada, who not only stars as protagonist Shujiro Saga but also serves as creative director, producer, and action choreographer. The cast also features Kaya Kiyohara, Hiroshi Tamaki, Masahiro Higashide, Takayuki Yamada, Kazunari Ninomiya, Riho Yoshioka, and more.

Behind the camera, directors Michihito Fujii, Kento Yamaguchi, and Toru Yamamoto bring the large-scale production to life, promising a mix of sword-clashing spectacle and gripping drama.

The newly released teaser showcases sweeping battle sequences, tense rivalries, and an atmosphere reminiscent of both classic samurai epics and modern survival thrillers. With its mix of historical setting and explosive action, Last Samurai Standing is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most ambitious Japanese productions yet.

Fans can catch the series debut at Busan before its global launch in November.
