A Mission Beyond Earth: Project Hail Mary Reveals Major Plot Twist in Trailer 2
The second official trailer for Project Hail Mary has arrived—and it doesn’t hold back.
Based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel and starring Ryan Gosling, the new trailer offers the most revealing look yet at the upcoming sci-fi epic, showcasing the desperate mission to save humanity and the unexpected ally that changes everything.
Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a science teacher turned astronaut who wakes up alone on a spacecraft with no memory of his mission. As fragments return, he discovers he’s been sent light-years away to stop a mysterious cosmic phenomenon that threatens to extinguish the Sun.
But the moment stealing all the buzz from Trailer 2 is the introduction of Rocky, an alien engineer from another star system facing the same deadly threat. Their unlikely partnership—equal parts tense, emotional, and surprisingly humorous—takes center stage in this new footage, marking a bold creative choice to reveal a twist many book fans didn’t expect to see in marketing.
The film is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a screenplay by Drew Goddard, and features supporting performances from Sandra Hüller and Milana Vayntrub. With striking visuals, an emotional core, and a blend of science, survival, and interspecies camaraderie, the trailer positions Project Hail Mary as one of 2026’s most anticipated releases.
The film is slated to premiere on March 20, 2026.
