‘Murderbot’ Trailer Released: Alexander Skarsgård Stars as Sentient Robot in New Apple TV+ Series

Apple TV+ has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming sci-fi comedy series, “Murderbot,” starring Alexander Skarsgård as a sentient security robot navigating human emotions and workplace dynamics. Based on Martha Wells’ acclaimed book series, The Murderbot Diaries, the show is set to premiere on May 16, 2025.
In “Murderbot,” Skarsgård portrays a security unit that has hacked its programming to experience free will. Rather than embarking on a path of destruction, the robot prefers to binge-watch soap operas and avoid social interactions. Despite its introverted tendencies, Murderbot remains committed to protecting a team of scientists on a hazardous alien planet, leading to a blend of comedic and action-packed scenarios.
The series features a diverse cast, including Noma Dumezweni as Dr. Mensah and David Dastmalchian as Gurathin. Notably, the trailer hints at appearances by Clark Gregg, John Cho, and Jack McBrayer in the in-universe soap opera, The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon, which Murderbot obsessively watches.
Created by Chris and Paul Weitz, known for their work on “American Pie” and “About a Boy,” the 10-episode series will debut with its first two episodes on May 16, followed by weekly releases every Friday through July 11.
The release of the “Murderbot” trailer has generated significant buzz, with fans of the original book series and newcomers alike expressing excitement for the show’s unique blend of humor, action, and introspection. As Apple TV+ continues to expand its science fiction offerings, “Murderbot” is poised to become a standout addition to the platform’s lineup.
