RLJE Films has released the official trailer for Descendent, an unsettling new sci-fi horror thriller set to hit theaters on August 8, 2025, followed by a digital release on August 15. Directed by Peter Cilella in his feature debut, the film stars The Walking Dead‘s Ross Marquand and The Spiderwick Chronicles’ Sarah Bolger in a suspenseful tale that blurs the line between psychological trauma and extraterrestrial threat.

The film had its world premiere at SXSW 2025, where it garnered strong early reviews for its eerie atmosphere, grounded performances, and emotional depth.

In Descendent, Sean Bruner (Marquand), a school security guard and expectant father, experiences a disturbing encounter with a mysterious beam of light during a routine night shift. He wakes up days later in a hospital, plagued by bizarre visions, alien drawings, and an unraveling sense of reality. As his paranoia intensifies, Sean is forced to confront a buried childhood trauma that might be connected to an otherworldly presence threatening his family.

The trailer teases a slow-burn narrative drenched in dread, evoking classic sci-fi paranoia with modern psychological horror. It blends themes of fatherhood, identity, and mental deterioration with chilling alien imagery, offering an experience for fans of films like The Vast of Night and The Endless.

Produced by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Synchronic, Something in the Dirt), alongside David Lawson Jr. and Caleb Ward, Descendent represents a continuation of their exploration of grounded yet cerebral genre cinema.
