Spotify Premium Gets Pricier in the U.S. — Here’s What You’ll Pay
Spotify has announced another round of price increases for its Premium subscription plans in the United States, set to take effect in February 2026. The move marks the third price hike in four years for U.S. users, as the streaming giant continues to lean on pricing adjustments to drive revenue growth in mature markets.
Under the new pricing structure:
- Individual Plan: Increasing from $11.99 to $12.99/month
- Duo Plan: Increasing from $16.99 to $18.99/month
- Family Plan: Increasing from $19.99 to $21.99/month
- Student Plan: Increasing from $5.99 to $6.99/month
Spotify began notifying subscribers via email in mid-January, with the new rates applying to users’ next billing cycle starting in February.
The company framed the increase as part of its ongoing effort to “deliver a great experience” and “benefit artists,” echoing similar justifications used in previous global pricing updates. Spotify has implemented similar hikes across Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific over the past year.
Despite the higher costs, Spotify appears confident that the changes won’t significantly impact subscriber retention. Past increases have reportedly had minimal effect on churn, and investor sentiment remains positive, with shares ticking upward following the announcement.
This pricing update comes roughly 18 months after the last U.S. increase in July 2024, when the Individual plan rose from $9.99 to $11.99. As competition in the streaming space intensifies, Spotify’s strategy suggests a continued focus on monetizing its vast user base while expanding its content offerings and global footprint.
