The JHorror Ringu Franchise Returns with Sadako DX Film

The queen of JHorror “Sadako”, the mythical figure of “Ringu”, will return to the screen with Koshiba Fuka as the protagonist in “Sadako DX”. Its premiere will be in the spring of 2022

The official website for Sadako DX, the new live-action film in the Ring franchise, unveiled a new teaser trailer, visual, and cast members.

Suzuki’s Ring novel series inspired the horror franchise of the same name. The Japanese film series includes two timelines. The first film, Ring, debuted in 1998, and the Spiral sequel followed later that year. Ring 2 premiered in 1999, and Ring Ø: Birthday debuted in 2000. The franchise also includes two Sadako 3D films, as well as a new Sadako film, which opened in Japan in May 2019.

Since the release of “Ring” based on Koji Suzuki’s horror novel in 1998, numerous works related to the horror icon Sadako have been produced. In “Sadako DX”, while a person who watched a “curse video” suddenly died all over the country, an important younger sister watched the video with interest, so IQ200 graduate student Fumika Ichijo Struggles to unravel the mystery. Koshiba played Bunka, directed by Hisashi Kimura of “99.9-Criminal Lawyer-THE MOVIE”, and written by Yuya Takahashi of “Laughing Under the Clouds”.

Six cast members of the characters surrounding Bunka have been revealed. Kawamura plays the self-proclaimed fortune-teller, Oji Maeda, who challenges Sadako’s curse with Bunka, and Kuroba plays the electric shock Lloyd of the collaborators. Naomi Nishida as Bunka’s mother, Chieko Ichijo, Yuki Yagi as her younger sister, Futaba Ichijo, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi as Kenshin, a popular spirit medium who invites Bunka to unravel the mystery of the curse, and Hiroyuki Watanabe as Kenshin’s father, Ryoma Tendou.
