Netflix Texas Chainsaw Massacre Dropped First Trailer

Netflix dropped the first trailer for the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot film.

The Netflix movie also serves as a sequel to the original 1974 horror film, with the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre teasing the return of the infamous Leatherface, who reemerges after 50 years. He will encounter a new cast of heroes, made up of a group of influencers: Sisters Melody (Sarah Yarkin) and Lila (Elsie Fisher) and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson).

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre introduced the iconic horror villain Leatherface to cinema and sparked a trend consisting of low-budget slasher films. Its many sequels did not enjoy the same level of recognition or success as the original, with the most recent installment, the 2017 prequel film Leatherface, earning just $1.5 million through its home media release.

When it comes to the prospect of a reboot or revival, not all — including those involved in the original — have expressed support. Filmmaker Ted Nicolaou, who was part of the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre‘s crew, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of those movies that is of its time… And, you know, I’m happy when they remake Texas Chainsaw Massacre, because we all participate a little bit in the profits from that, in the payoff from the selling off the rights. But I have to say, when you apply a kind of modern horror film aesthetics to something that is so unique, I don’t think it can ever beat the original.”

Texas Chainsaw Massacre slashes its way onto Netflix on Feb. 18.
