Deathstalker Reboot Trailer Teases Blood, Monsters, and Old-School Fantasy Action

The cult classic Deathstalker has returned with a brand-new reboot, and its first official trailer has arrived—offering fans a blood-soaked, practical-effects spectacle straight out of the 1980s fantasy playbook.

Directed by Steven Kostanski (Psycho Goreman), the film stars action veteran Daniel Bernhardt (John Wick, The Matrix Reloaded) as the wandering swordsman Deathstalker. This reimagining follows the warrior after he discovers a cursed amulet on a battlefield, branding him with dark magic and forcing him on a perilous quest to break the curse while battling monstrous assassins and ancient evil.

The supporting cast includes Nina Bergman as Grendel, Christina Orjalo as Brisbayne, and Paul Lazenby as Jotak, with Patton Oswalt lending his voice to the kindly wizard Doodad.

True to its sword-and-sorcery roots, the reboot leans heavily on practical effects—creature suits, prosthetic makeup, and stop-motion animation—avoiding CGI whenever possible. Fans of 1980s fantasy cult cinema will instantly recognize the gritty, handmade charm that made the original a fan favorite.

The soundtrack also packs a punch: the film’s score comes from Blitz//Berlin, while the theme song was crafted by Slash(Guns N’ Roses), composer Bear McCreary, and cult legend Chuck Cirino. Slash, who also serves as executive producer, has publicly praised the film’s old-school approach to monster-making.

The Deathstalker remake premiered at the 78th Locarno Film Festival on August 15, 2025, and will hit U.S. theaters on October 10, 2025, via Shout! Studios. Raven Banner will handle distribution in Canada.

For fantasy fans craving brutal action, epic quests, and a return to practical monster magic, Deathstalker promises to be one of the most talked-about cult reboots of the year.
