MTG Announces Final Fantasy Collaboration Featuring Beloved Heroes and Mechanics

Wizards of the Coast has unveiled an exciting collaboration between Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and the iconic Final Fantasy franchise. This partnership brings together two legendary universes, promising a unique and immersive experience for fans of both series.
Scheduled for release on June 13, 2025, the “Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy” set is poised to be a monumental addition to the MTG universe. This set will feature the largest collection of Final Fantasy artwork ever assembled in a single game, encompassing characters and scenes from all 16 mainline Final Fantasy titles. Players can look forward to seeing beloved heroes like Cloud Strife, Terra Branford, Tidus, and Y’shtola, each rendered in stunning detail by renowned artists, including the legendary Yoshitaka Amano.
In addition to the main set, four pre-constructed Commander decks will be available, each themed around a specific Final Fantasy game. These decks are designed to narrate the stories of their respective games through unique mechanics and card interactions. For instance, the Final Fantasy VI deck emphasizes themes of rebirth and resilience, mirroring the game’s narrative by focusing on returning creatures from the graveyard to the battlefield.
One of the standout cards revealed is the “Jumbo Cactuar,” inspired by the formidable enemy from Final Fantasy VIII. This card boasts a unique ability called “10,000 Needles,” granting it a staggering +9999 attack during its attack phase, a direct homage to the original game’s mechanics. Such innovative designs exemplify the creative fusion of MTG gameplay with classic Final Fantasy elements.
