Sanrio and IDW Unveil “Hello Kitty: Hello World” Comic Series
Hello Kitty Embarks on a Global Comic Book Adventure with IDW
Sanrio’s beloved icon Hello Kitty is stepping into a bold new chapter—this time, in comic book form. In a landmark collaboration with IDW Publishing, Sanrio is launching a brand-new Hello Kitty comic book universe, beginning with the debut of Hello Kitty: Hello World on July 22, 2026, to coincide with San Diego Comic-Con.
The inaugural series, penned by Eisner Award-winning writer Mariko Tamaki (This One Summer, Zatanna: Bring Down the House) and brought to life by artist Cody Lemieux (Despite, Despite, Despite), promises a globe-trotting, riddle-solving adventure. Each issue will follow Hello Kitty and her friends as they travel the world, unraveling mysteries and meeting new characters along the way.
Described as “a classic and lovable depiction of Sanrio’s characters,” the series aims to blend nostalgia with fresh storytelling, making it a perfect entry point for new readers and a delightful expansion for longtime fans.
This launch marks the beginning of a multi-title partnership between Sanrio and IDW, with additional series and crossovers slated for 2027. The move signals a strategic expansion of the Hello Kitty brand, which has already conquered everything from fashion to animation since its 1974 debut.
As the world gears up for Comic-Con, fans can expect exclusive previews, signings, and limited-edition merchandise tied to the comic’s release. With its charming art style and global storytelling, Hello Kitty: Hello World is poised to become a must-read for fans of all ages.
