‘Immortal Legend Batman’ Brings Tokusatsu Flair to Gotham in New DC Series

DC Comics has pulled back the cowl on its next major Elseworlds project—IMMORTAL LEGEND BATMAN, a bold, genre-blending reimagining of the Dark Knight unlike anything fans have seen before.
The six-issue limited series will be written by Kyle Higgins (Radiant Black, Nightwing) and Mat Groom (Inferno Girl Red), with art from powerhouse talents Dan Mora (Batman/Superman: World’s Finest) and Erica D’Urso (The Mighty Valkyries). The series launches under DC’s ELSEWORLDS imprint, known for delivering bold new visions of iconic characters beyond the main continuity.
Set in a futuristic world inspired by the Superhero Tokusatsu genre—a Japanese staple known for high-octane action, armor-clad heroes, and dramatic transformation sequences—IMMORTAL LEGEND BATMAN promises to fuse Eastern spectacle with Western mythology.
“We’re channeling everything we love about transformation heroes—Kamen Rider, Ultraman, Super Sentai—and filtering it through the lens of Gotham’s shadow,” said Higgins in a press release. “This is Batman redefined: a symbol that transcends mortality, built for a world in chaos.”
In this world, Batman is no longer just a man. He’s a legacy, a mantle passed down and enhanced through technology, myth, and a mysterious power source that may be beyond human comprehension. As cities crumble and monsters rise, the Bat returns—immortal, unrelenting, and forever legend.
Art duties will be split between Mora and D’Urso, with Mora illustrating the primary storyline while D’Urso handles key flashbacks and origin sequences. Their distinct styles will help distinguish timelines and perspectives in a narrative that spans generations.
IMMORTAL LEGEND BATMAN #1 is set to release this summer, with covers by Mora, variant editions from leading artists across the industry, and a special black-and-white Tokusatsu homage variant teased as part of the rollout.
Stay tuned—because in this Elseworld, the night never ends.
