Takopi’s Original Sin Trailer Promises a Dark, Touching Tale

The emotional and unsettling new trailer for Takopi’s Original Sin was released this week, giving fans their first full look at the anime adaptation of Taizan 5’s hit manga. The series will premiere on June 28, 2025, and stream globally across major platforms including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, and ABEMA.
Cute little alien Takopi lands on Earth. What is his mission? To be taken to our leader? No. To spread happiness throughout the universe! The first person Takopi meets is depressed fourth grader Shizuka. (Or is it…?) Takopi is determined to do whatever it takes to make Shizuka smile again. But his misguided attempts to help her by using his advanced technology to turn back time only result in mayhem and death. What is the truth Takopi can’t remember? And what must the pink alien octopus with a heart of gold sacrifice to truly help Shizuka and her friends…?
Produced by Studio Twin Engine and animated by studio FILMONY, Takopi’s Original Sin will run for six episodes, promising a condensed but powerful retelling of the manga’s story. The trailer introduces Takopi, a cheerful alien from the “Happy Planet” who comes to Earth with good intentions — but whose actions inadvertently unravel into a tragic series of events.
Narrated with a haunting tone and visually rich animation, the trailer features the show’s opening and ending themes: “Happy Lucky Chappy” by ano and “Glass no Sen” by Tele. Both tracks emphasize the bittersweet atmosphere that defines the series. The manga, which ran briefly in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2022, received critical acclaim for its delicate handling of themes such as childhood trauma, bullying, and morality — all within the framework of a seemingly lighthearted sci-fi tale.
As anticipation builds, Takopi’s Original Sin stands out as one of this year’s most emotionally charged anime releases, balancing whimsical character design with a harrowing narrative arc.
