The upcoming live-action adaptation of the hit manga Sakamoto Days — created by Yuto Suzuki — has dropped its first official teaser trailer, confirming a Japanese release date of April 29, 2026, coinciding with Japan’s Golden Week holiday.

In the new trailer, lead actor Ren Meguro is showcased as protagonist Taro Sakamoto in both of his signature incarnations: the overweight, retired shopkeeper version and the slim, lethal assassin form.

Beyond visual style, the teaser hints at the film’s commitment to combining high-octane action with comedic and domestic moments — echoing the tone that helped make the manga (and its anime) beloved.

Additionally, to achieve the dramatic transformation between the two “Sakamoto selves,” production used special-effects makeup and prosthetics — reportedly taking around four hours per day on set.

The manga debuted in 2020 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and has 25 volumes as of December 2025. It has inspired a two-cour TV anime.

Viz Media describes the manga’s premise as such:

Time has passed peacefully for Sakamoto since he left the underworld. He’s running a neighborhood store with his lovely wife and child and has gotten a bit…out of shape. But one day a figure from his past pays him a visit with an offer he can’t refuse: return to the assassin world or die!
