Gamba’s Adventure Returns to Theaters for 50th Anniversary Celebration

Japanese audiences will soon relive the magic of Gamba’s Adventure as the beloved 1975 animated classic directed by Osamu Dezaki returns to theaters nationwide on January 9, 2026. The re-release marks the film’s 50th anniversary, honoring its enduring legacy in Japanese animation history.

Originally released in 1975, Gamba’s Adventure (known in Japan as Gamba no Bōken) follows the courageous mouse Gamba and his companions as they embark on a perilous journey to save a village from a band of marauding weasels. The film is celebrated for its bold visual style, emotional storytelling, and Dezaki’s signature direction, which helped define the look and feel of anime in the 1970s.

The anniversary screening offers both longtime fans and new generations the chance to experience the film on the big screen, complete with remastered visuals and sound. This re-release underscores the timeless appeal of Gamba’s bravery and friendship, themes that continue to resonate half a century later.

With its return to theaters, Gamba’s Adventure reaffirms its place as a cornerstone of Japanese animation and a testament to Osamu Dezaki’s artistry.
