Fullmetal Alchemist’s Hiromu Arakawa Launches New Manga

The mangaka, author of Fullmetal Alchemist Hiromu Arakawa, will publish a new fantasy manga in Square Enix magazine.

This announcement comes on the heels of Fullmetal Alchemist‘s 20th anniversary. It may be hard to believe, but the hit series got started two decades ago under Arakawa’s direction. The man ran from 2001 until 2010 when its final chapter went live. Arakawa began her next manga in 2011 with Silver Spoon, and the slice-of-life story ended in 2019. The artist has been taking a well-deserved break since then, but it seems Arakawa is ready to return to work.

Arakawa launched The Heroic Legend of Arslan (Arslan Senki) manga in Kodansha‘s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in July 2013. The series adapts Yoshiki Tanaka‘s (Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Sohryuden – Legend of the Dragon Kings, Tytania) novel series of the same name, which ended with the 16th volume in December 2017. The first season of the television anime adaptation of Arakawa’s manga premiered in April 2015 and ran for 25 episodes. The second season, titled Arslan Senki: Fūjin Ranbu (The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance), premiered in July 2016.

Also announced as part of Fullmetal Alchemist‘s 20th anniversary celebration was the reopening of the Fullmetal Alchemist art exhibition, digital releases for Arakawa’s manga one-shots, a collaboration café next year and a brand-new game.
